Medical Tests For Young Adult Men
The thoughts on the doctor however were also inspired by an article in Best Life magazine, which I subscribe to. This is by far my favorite magazine these days by the way. Anyway, the article was entitled "The Best Medical Tests For Men". The article featured many different tests you should have performed in your thirties, forties, and fifties. It briefly described the tests and informed how often they should be performed.
I thought this was an excellent article but it mentioned nothing of a man in his twenties. I of course went on-line but I have been shocked to find that there is hardly anything on the subject matter for men at all let alone men in their twenties. I've found that most site say you should live a healthy lifestyle and see your doctor but nothing seems to say what I should see my doctor about. I don't even know what has been done to me in the past to checkup on!
I did however find the following on MebMD for health tests in all decades of life and descriptions of them all. They should be helpful even though some of these pages are designed for women.
I'm just going to have to start trying to formulate my own health maintenance regimen without the help of a to-do list guide. Stink. Anyway, I guess it's worth it, and maybe he'll magically make my neck stop hurting. The following are WebMDs health tests by decade:
Health tests in your 20s and 30s
Health tests in your 40s
Health tests in your 50s
Health tests in your 60s and up
Medical Tests A-Z
Tests for the thirties according to BestLife Magazine include:
- Fasting Blood Glucose (Once a year),
- HIV ELISA/Western Blot (Once every 5 years),
- Testicular Exam (Monthly Self-Exam),
- Body Mass Index (Once every 3 years),
- High-Sensitivity CRP & Homocysteine Test (Every 5 years),
- Full Lipid Profile (At least once every 5 years),
- Blood Pressure (Once a year),
- and a Dental Exam (Twice a year).
Further tests suggested by WebMD include:
- a Skin Exam (Once every 3 years),
- an Eye Exam (Once every few years),
- and a Check-up on Immunizations.
Looks like this will keep me busy at the doctor for a while. :)

A Long MLK Jr. Weekend
Saturday night ended up being a very lazy evening. I accompanied Flor to a school group potluck dinner party in Encinitas and then spent the evening with her and her sisters at PLNU. While there we watched a Christian Illusionist perform. I've seen better but this guy was definitely talented and generally fun to watch. He did however do one of my favorite card tricks - 4 Aces. You can watch a variation of this trick here on YouTube:
Anyway, Sunday I was very sick but Flor and I watched the Chargers lose, entertained my parents for dinner and then watched a classic Hitchcock film: The Birds. Very cool and very dated in style. I enjoyed the movie but it doesn't have the intensity that a modern suspense has. Monday ended up being my first day of feeling really better. My parents came over around 11am and went to lunch with me, Flor, Aaron, and AJ. Then we spent some time checking out Cabrillo Monument on what ended up being an amazingly beautiful day. The few pictures we took can be found here on Picassa Web.
Overall much of the weekend I was able to relax and recuperate from my illness and that was key. Now I'm strong enough for work, yeah! When's the weekend going to get here? :)

2006 - A Year In Review
"If this year (2005) is a warm-up for 2006 then I will be happy because 2006 could be the best year of my life! But then again I’m an optimist; I can’t help it."
I could not have been any more correct. 2006 was one of the best years of my life. First of all I began the year in a new living arrangement which was by far better than the last. I made some excellent investment desicions in the Spring and Summer which faired quite well. I began dating Flor who then became my girlfriend the day before my 26th birthday and I couldn't be happier with her footprint in my life. Bowling has been going good. My statistics this year on the PBA Western Regional Tour have been a definitive improvement over the previous year. My job has been a challenge at times but it has supported me financialy and developmentaly and I couldn't ask for a better boss. I'm really looking forward to watching what my career becomes as my job continually evolves. I've had an rich year traveling the country. 2006 brought me trips to New Jersey, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Missouri, and Hawaii as well as my first Cruise when I vacationed south of the boarder in Ensenada Mexico. Lastly, and most importantly I've really remained close to family and friends and have generaly begun to understand that I am repected by them more than I realized at the outset of this year.
Here's to an amzing 2007. I would be extreamly lucky to experience another year as enjoyable.
